Focus, Focus, Focus

Hello Everyone!

First I owe everyone an apology for taking an extended leave of absence. No excuse, we know what they are like. With that said, I’m interested in finding out what everyones goals are and what they want to accomplish. More important, what I can do to help everyone attain their goals. Please feel free to contact me no matter where you are.

I’m Bored, Let’s Eat!

Sound familiar? Home with nothing to do, you look in the fridge because you think your hungry? Nope, your bored, find something to take your mind off of being hungry, of course it doesn’t mean to get in front of the computer and surf Facebook, or play games.

How many of you get bored, look in the fridge, don’t find what you think you want, make a hot lap through the cabinets, then return to the fridge? Just a little hint, there isn’t a fridge fairy that puts different things in there when you’re not looking. At this point, you grab something that you think you want, eat it and realize you didn’t want that, so your back off on your mission to find something else! Your not going to find it because you’re not hungry your bored. Boredom leads to grazing, grazing will make you lose control of your weight. Eventually it leads to eating every snack, and microwavable quick thing in the house, trust me I was there!

The cure for common boredom is to find something to do. This is the easy part, everyone has a do to list, whether written or in your head, there is always something that you have been putting off till another day. For me, I work outside, either the yard, the shed, the garage, I can find something to occupy me time. If you take a minute and make a little mental inventory of what you’ve been putting off you have now found a way to get your mind off of being hungry and can do a little something productive for the day.

Now that you have your mission, and are going to do something productive, take a bottle or a glass of water with you. This will help cure you of the dreaded hand to mouth disease that keeps you thinking your hungry. Plus, it will fill the void you think you have in your stomach, and hydrate your body.

Drink a glass of water before bed, this will also help with waking up in the middle of the night to check and see if the fridge fairy did any restocking while you were asleep. I drink a protein shack before bed, when your body is resting it has more time to digest all the nutrients and you don’t wake up hungry.

Outdoor Exercise is Everywhere

When most people think of doing cardio it usually involves a treadmill. Running outside is a close second. If you take time to think about it, how come our society has more weight loss pills, videos and groups than ever before, yet the United States is 80% obeast? The generations before us were not as heavy as we are today.

All forms of exercise are great! Anything to get the blood flowing, increase your heart rate and get your muscles working! With the weather in upstate New York getting warmer and nicer everyday, no one wants to be a hamster on a wheel.

Try something new, go outside, there is a great big world out there! One of my favorite forms of exercise is yard work. Yes, yard work, raking, shovelling, cutting trees, trimming, its all good, and good for you! The bonus is that at the end of the day, your yard is clean, and you have a certain sense of accomplishment that you work get from runni

ng in place for an hour. I still use a push mower, nothing special, however, it does the trick and keeps me walking with resistance. Our house is surrounded by trees, with trees come an endless supply of limbs and leaves. With the raking, trimming, and picking up comes our summer fires in our burn pit.

The best part of outdoor exercise is that it can be done as a family. Our daughter is quite the helper. Many kids today don’t get enough exercise, or even go outside for that matter. That’s what makes the summer special, going outside with the family, doing things that keep you fit, whether you know it or not!

So the next time you look outside and see that something that you want to do, get the other half, the kids, a buddy to help. Not only will you enjoy yourself, you will be off the couch, getting some sun, and having a little workout without the working out!

The Ab Wheel, Tool or Torture?

Like most people wanting to get in shape, lose weight, or tone up, you want to work out. I purchased an ab wheel at our local Wal-Mart for less than $10. This has since prompted me to write an article about it.

For those who have not seen one or don’t know what it is I’ll explain. It is two small wheels in the center of a metal pipe. The handle are foam for comfort. The object is to roll out as far as you can while on your knees and roll back in. Using your abs to perform the motion.

Personally I enjoy this workout. You can feel the burn in your abs and shoulders when done properly. A very productive workout can be accomplished in a little time for those that don’t have enough time to hit the gym and workout for hours. This makes it a great tool for people on the run and it travels well for people on the go.

Now for the torture side of the ab wheel. If you do not have a semi-strong core this will let you know! When you first roll out, you will feel your muscles stretch, pull, and ask you what are you doing to me? The first time I used this I did a few reps and tried to get that last one out and came crashing down. I was a little frustrated, my friend Dennis (see success stories) let out a laugh and asked if I was okay. The key is to know, you will get better. It’s an exercise, if you were good at it then you would be in good shape.

When you begin your first set with an ab wheel, you will roll out, feel your adrenaline start to pump as you look down and realize that you don’t want to hit your face on the floor. Make sure you get a good stretch when you roll out. Now roll back in, keep your abs tight and crunch as return.

There are several variations to use such a simple tool. When you first start, start on your knees and roll out, as you get stronger and look for more difficultly you can start from a push-up position, however I wouldn’t recommend it to those who are just starting. Get comfortable with it, then advance.

Wanting to lose Weight? Congratulations….

You may look at the title and say “UH?” to yourself, it’s okay, I will explain.

Most people today start of like a bull, going to the gym, walking, eating food they really don’t like, but feel that it is necessary to shed those extra pounds. Go like wildfire for on average Two to three weeks. Some will see fantastic results, drop pounds and inches, get to their ideal weight and stop. Others will not see results fast enough, or skip one day and never look back.

I both cases, these diets have both failed, the one thing that hasn’t changed is the person. If you don’t change your habits then nothing will work. Diets and weight loss are about a lifestyle change.

You have reached a point, either your pants are getting tight, your running out of breath playing with your children or you looked in the mirror one day and said ” Who is this?”. Regardless, you want to change your lifestyle, the one you are currently taking has gotten you here. Wanting to lose weight, congratulations you have taken the first step.

Now is the time to set goals, make a plan, and begin. If you have any questions you can contact me by phone (518) 947-0115 or email me at david@weightloocairony.com
